Griffin Chapman’s journey began in 1941. Since then, our team of dedicated professionals, including three partners, has ensured we provide the expertise essential for building long-lasting client relationships.
As members of the UK200 Group, we offer specialised services typically associated with larger firms, while maintaining a personal, approachable touch.
We handle complex matters such as tax planning and accounting with accuracy and attention to detail. Our audit and compliance services are designed to be seamless and collaborative, making the process smooth and beneficial for our clients.

Our team consists of 21 dedicated professionals, including three partners, who all bring a wealth of expertise and a genuine interest in our clients’ businesses.
Partner
Claire Edwards CTA FCCA ATT
Claire joined Griffin Chapman in June 2015 as a tax manager, having qualified as an accountant in 2002 and worked in tax since 2004. She successfully studied for and passed the CTA exams in 2018 and is now a qualified Chartered Tax Advisor. Claire was awarded partnership at the firm in 2022 and runs the tax department. She has all round knowledge in accountancy and taxation but specialises in Personal tax, Trusts and Estates, including non-contentious Probate work. In her spare time, Claire enjoys spending time with her family, walks with the dog, gardening and cooking.

Dan Aldworth FCCA FMAAT
Dan joined Griffin Chapman in August 1999 as an accounts junior. After achieving his AAT qualification he became a qualified chartered certified accountant in 2004. Dan was awarded partnership at the firm in 2014. As well as having all round accounts and business experience he also specialises in the requirements of the academies sector. Outside of professional life Dan enjoys weekend walks with his dog and tending to his garden, when the British weather allows, often followed by a glass or two of nice wine.

Thomas Maddocks FCA FMAAT
Thomas joined Griffin Chapman in 2015 as a client manager. He was awarded partnership at the firm in 2019. He had previously trained at another local firm where he achieved his AAT qualification and then qualified as a chartered accountant in April 2013. Thomas then worked in the city for an independent firm of accountants where he gained valuable experience managing group audits. He assists clients with their auditing, accountancy and tax requirements, as well as leading the firms computer services and cloud-based accounting offering. Whilst away from the office he enjoys following many sports, as well as playing football and golf.

Michael Graves ATT
Michael joined Griffin Chapman in 1996. He acts for and assists a broad range of commercial clients in a number of sectors, including construction, IT and haulage. He also advises clients in the charity and education sectors on dealing with accounts, reporting, auditing, internal control evaluation and systems and financial strategy. Outside of work his interests include running, cycling, travel and growing vegetables!

Rachel Elliott FCCA
Rachel qualified as a chartered certified accountant June 2006 and joined Griffin Chapman as a client manager in August 2007 becoming an associate April 2022. Rachel specialises in assisting schools and academies. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys spending time with her friends and family, riding and competing in events with her two horses and keeps fit running.

Adrian Shakespeare FCCA
Adrian joined Griffin Chapman in July 1996. He qualified as a certified accountant in 2000 and became senior manager, then associate in September 2015. Over the years, Adrian has built up his own diverse portfolio of loyal clients, which he advises and assists in their individual needs. When Adrian isn’t at work, he can be found watching his beloved Colchester United or at home doing a spot of DIY.
Commercial Consultant
Alex Scarfe BA (Hons) PG Dip Legal Practice
Alex joined Griffin Chapman in 2010 as commercial consultant after many years of commercial experience at board level. He provides clients with advice relating to mergers, acquisitions and exit planning. Outside of work, Alex’s interests include sailing, classic cars, travel and family.
