Stuart Bennett - Update

Stuart is going to have a bone marrow transplant and will be in hospital for five to six weeks.  Hopefully, this will happen within four weeks provided the chosen donor is suitable.  This is an important step on his road to recovery.

His bone marrow transplant is coming from someone on a worldwide register.  There is no facility for any of us to make a specific donation to him.  However, we are extremely lucky that someone has signed up to do this.  There are three different registers:

NHS - www.nhsbt.nhs.uk/bonemarrow/ (age 18 to 49)

Anthony Nolan - www.anthonynolan.org/ (age 16 to 30)

Deletebloodcancer - www.deletebloodcancer.org.uk/en (age 17 to 55)

We would ask everyone to seriously consider registering if you are eligible and willing to do so.  You could save someone’s life.

Also, there is a shortage of platelets generally in the UK.  The process is different from giving blood, so has to be done at a specific donation centre. We would urge you to consider platelet donation as this too saves lives and may help Stuart, and others, as he will need platelet transfusions in future.  www.blood.co.uk/platelets/ (age 17 to 65).
